A Prayer for Recovery
May God grant me his blessed healing and give me the patience, hope and courage
to endure the pains of my illness. May God so endow the physician with insight
and skill that I may soon be restored to perfect health of body and mind and
return to the joy of my loved ones. May I as never before value the blessings
of health and render thanks to God, the merciful healer, the source of all blessings.
A Prayer for One Who is Afraid
O you, who are the ever-blessed God, the underlying peace of the world, speak
to me the words of assurance: “Fear not, for I am with you.” Put
such a spirit of trust within me that all fear and foreboding shall be thrust
out and the right reason and calm assurance may rule my thoughts and impulses.
Let quietness and confidence be my strength. Show me that around and about me
are your unseen and bounteous powers. Let me remember that you do not give to
any spirit of fearfulness, but a spirit of faith. In this faith, grant that
I may summon the energies of my soul against the miseries that cast me down.
Give me courage, confidence and an untroubled heart. Amen.
A Prayer Before an Operation
Into your loving care, O Lord, I commit my life completely with trust and confidence.
You are my dwelling place and underneath are your everlasting arms. To you I
give my body that you may repair it. May I fall asleep peacefully in you. Guide
the hands of the surgeon. Give wisdom to the surgeon that health and strength
may be accomplished. Bless the nurses who assist the surgeon and who care for
me as I return to consciousness. Calm my anxious relatives and friends as they
watch and wait for my recovery. Grant that if there is any suffering I have
the strength to bear it willingly and patiently. Amen.
A Prayer After an Operation
Gracious God, I thank you that you have safely seen me through this operation
and have preserved my life. Your mercies are boundless and your goodness without
limit. Continue to let your healing hand rest upon me. Grant that everything
done for me by my physician and the nurses will speed the day of my recovery.Ease
my distress; calm my nerves; speak peace to my soul. In my suffering, let me
remember that my Saviour endured even greater pain in the garden to redeem and
heal my soul. Keep me in thy grace and steadfast in faith. You are adding to
the length of my days. Grant that I will be mindful of my duties and serve you
in faithfulness. May your promises become more precious to me from day to day
and when healed may I, by your grace, give more attention to your word and worship
you with greater devotion. Amen.
A Prayer for Facing the Unknown
Kind and caring God, my once secure life now holds tremendous change. Come into
my turmoil and quiet my anxiety. Be there with the gifts of your peace and guidance.
Let me not be overwhelmed with fear of the unknown. Grant me the ability to
face what awaits me. Take my hand and assure me that you will always be with
me, no matter what the future holds. Amen.
A Prayer for Those Unable to Sleep
How alone I feel tonight. How weary I am during these long hours of wakefulness.
Do you really never sleep; you who promise always to be with us? Do you really
hear the cry of the poor? I am poor now, God, and afraid. How will I get well
if I do not sleep? Let me hear you say deep in my heart, “Peace be with
you; do not be afraid.” Let me feel your embrace. Amen.
An Act of Contrition
O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended you, and I detest all my sins
because of your just punishments. But most of all, because they have offended
you, my God, who are good and worthy of all my love. I firmly resolve with the
help of your grace to sin no more and to avoid the near occasions of sin. Amen.
Prayer for a Newborn Baby
Creator, you are the giver of all life, human and divine. You came into the
world so that we might have life in fullness. We are grateful for the life you
have given us and for making us bearers of life to other people. We rejoice for
the miracle of the new life that has been born into our midst, for choosing
us as instruments of this new creation. As you have given us the joy of being
life-givers, help us to be life-sustainers by sharing our life and care with
this baby who is already part of our family. Send your blessing and spirit upon
our child to protect and guide him/her throughout his/her life. Amen.
Prayer of St. Francis
Make me a channel of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me bring your love;
where there is injury, your pardon, Lord; and where there’s doubt, true
faith in you.Make me a channel of your peace. Where there’s despair in
life, let me bring hope; where there is darkness, only light; and where there’s
sadness, ever joy.Oh, Master, grant that I may never seek so much to be consoled
as to console, to be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love with
all my soul.Make me a channel of your peace. It is in pardoning that we are
pardoned, in giving of ourselves that we receive, and in dying that we’re
born to eternal life. Amen.
Psalm 23 - The Lord is My Shepherd
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. In green pastures he gives me repose;
beside restful waters he leads me; he refreshes my soul.He guides me in right
paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk in the dark valley I fear
no evil;for you are at my side with your rod and your staff that give me courage.
You spread the table before me in the sight of my enemies; you anoint my head
with oil; my cup overflows.Only goodness and kindness follow me all the days
of my life; and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord for years to come. Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your
will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And
lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil (for the kingdom and the
power and the glory are yours, now and forever). Amen.
The Hail Mary
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women
and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray
for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
Prayer for Forgiveness
Gracious God, our weakness is not exactly news to you. Every day in many ways,
we start out with marvelous intentions and end up trying to get even, to get
out of responsibility, to nurture dishonesty in thought or act. Forgive us.
Send us your spirit of love so that we can forgive one another; for our inability
to forgive is where most of our trouble starts. And, on a deeper level help
us forgive ourselves to believe in your pardon gained by dying and rising. Forgiveness
instead of resentment could get to be a habit – and not a bad one at that.
Lord Jesus, thank You for entering our lives to bring Your healing. We ask especially
that You heal whatever in our bodies and spirit need Your healing touch.Help
us to walk with You so that we may accept Your healing whenever and however
You give it.We trust that Your infinite power will renew and heal us even though
we may not immediately see that You love us more than we love ourselves. We thank
You for wanting to heal us just as You healed everyone who asked and trusted
in Your healing power. Amen.

Prayer of Consolation and Patience (from the Koran)
God! There is no god but He, the Living, the Self-subsisting, Eternal. No slumber
can seize Him nor sleep. His are all things in the heavens and on earth.Who
is there can intercede in His presence except as He permitteth? He knoweth what
(appeareth to His creatures as) before or after nor shall they compass aught
of His knowledge except as He willeth. His Throne doth extend over the heavens
and the earth, and He feeleth no fatigue in guarding and preserving them for
He is the Most High, The Supreme (in glory).
Prayer for Healing (from the Koran)
O ye who believe! Seek help with patient perseverance and prayer: for God is
with those who patiently persevere. And say not of those who are slain in the
way nay, they are living, though ye perceive (it) not. Be sure we shall test
you with something of fear and hunger, some loss in goods or lives or the fruits
(of your toil), but give glad tidings to those who patiently persevere, who
say, when afflicted with calamity: “To God we belong, and to Him is our
return”; they are those on whom (descend) blessings from God, and mercy,
and they are the ones that receive guidance.
