The Family Birth Center at St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor has pediatricians available 24-hours-a-day to meet the needs of your newborn. Should your baby require special care, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor can provide the medical attention your baby needs. The most common reasons for admission to the NICU are prematurity, respiratory disease and infections.
Whatever your baby’s medical needs, we recognize that what your baby needs most is you. If your baby is doing well, we encourage you to keep him or her in your room with you. If your baby needs special care, we encourage you to visit the baby in the NICU as much as possible.
The nursing staff will help you feel comfortable taking care of your baby. If you wish, a nurse willdemonstrate baby care or supervise you doing it. And you can ask your nurse any questions you might have.
In some instances, parents whose baby is in the NICU at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital may choose to stay at McAuley Inn, directly connected to the hospital.
