After years of planning, construction, and hard work, St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea is pleased to unveil our new and expanded facility, designed for the comfort and convenience of our patients and visitors as well as state-of-the art medical care. Keeping in mind our heritage and history, the addition maintains our peaceful, serene setting for optimal healing and relaxation for patients and guests.
The addition creates a seamless care experience between our new and existing facilities, in a comfortable setting that was created with the patient experience top of mind – no matter where you are within the new or existing facilities. Patients and families will enjoy specially selected local artwork in the rooms and halls, peaceful, wooded views from the spacious windows throughout the building, and a picturesque courtyard with sculptures, benches, and a variety of flowers and trees. In addition, each of our 108 patient rooms offers ample space for patients and their guests, as well as scenic campus views from the windows. Enjoy a nutritious and delicious meal ordered via room service – for the food you want, when you want it. Plenty of close, convenient parking is always available near the main entrance, Surgery Center, and Emergency Department.
Patients and families can easily move between the new and existing facilities with the use of indoor or outdoor corridors, creating a streamlined experience no matter what services you may need at SJMC – or what the weather may be outside.
At St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea, you receive the exceptional healthcare you have come to expect, coupled with a modern, yet comfortable and healing, environment.
Patients and visitors at SJMC will be treated to a stunning art display, showcasing 260 works of art throughout the building. A rotating collection of 20-25 pieces is displayed in the gallery corridor that connects the two buildings, and the public is encouraged to view the exhibit. The gallery corridor also features a special children’s art exhibit, featuring the work of children in our communities. The new patient rooms include artwork that was specially selected by the Chelsea Center for the Arts to be of benefit to patients in the Hospital.
Our expanded and updated Gift Shop, as well as the new Joe’s Java Café, offer our community unique gift ideas and delicious menu items, whether you are a patient or guest at our Hospital, or just out and about in the community. All are welcome to utilize and enjoy these new destinations for shopping and refreshments. Expanded hours for the Gift Shop mean you can easily visit the shop when it’s convenient for you, and can take a break in the café with your favorite coffee or other beverage and snack.
Although St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea is now much larger than it used to be, we’ve taken every measure possible to ensure it is easy for patients and guests to find their way. First, you’ll find plenty of spaces in our large, well-lit parking lot, and a convenient canopy in front of the Main Entrance for hassle-free drop-offs or pick-ups.
The Hospital is now divided into five distinct areas, which enhances the ability to find services within the building. The areas are as follows:
The new addition is the Atrium Area, which includes:
First floor - Admitting and registration, main entrance, diagnostic imaging and cardiopulmonary services, rehabilitation services, gift shop, café, and conference rooms. Second floor – intensive care unit (2301 – 2306), Atrium East patient rooms (2201 – 2224), and Atrium West patient rooms (2101 – 2124).
The Emergency Center includes our 20 emergency patient rooms and registration and lounge areas for the emergency department, as well as business health and occupational medicine services.
The Surgery Center includes our operating rooms for inpatient and outpatient surgery, as well as registration and lounge areas for outpatient surgery patients. The lower level houses administration, human resources, and medical records.
The Woodland Area includes ChelseaCare Home Medical Equipment, the Seasons dining room, private dining rooms, and Board Room on the first floor. Sleep center and Woodland rooms are located on the lower level.
