Women At High Risk For Breast Cancer Can Now Benefit From Breast MRI
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
June 24, 2013
WOMEN AT HIGH RISK FOR BREAST CANCER CAN NOW BENEFIT
FROM BREAST MRI SERVICE
St. Clair County…St. John River District and St. Joseph Mercy hospitals are pleased to announce the offering of Breast MRI services through our partnership with Advanced MRI. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for the breast is a non-invasive medical test designed to help physicians diagnose breast conditions including cancer.
MRI of the breast is not a replacement for mammography or ultrasound imaging, but rather a supplemental tool that has many important uses, including screening women at high risk for breast cancer as a result of a strong family history. A strong family history is usually a mother or sister who has had breast cancer prior to age 50, or other family relatives including those on the fraternal side. The screening is also used to determine the extent of the disease after a new breast cancer diagnosis; and also to further evaluate hard-to-access abnormalities seen on a mammogram.
In May 2013, Advanced MRI celebrated its first anniversary serving patients in St. Clair County and surrounding areas. In November 2012, Advanced MRI announced the availability of the first Open Bore MRI service in the area. Breast MRI will be available to patients beginning the week of June 23, 2013.
"With limited access to Breast MRI services in St. Clair County, now women can take advantage of two convenient locations to obtain this important and needed imaging service," comments Edward Mauch, MD, Radiologist with X-Ray Associates, PC, and member of the Advanced MRI services board.
A joint undertaking between St. John River District Hospital and St. Joseph Mercy Port Huron, Advanced MRI services are provided at either St. John River District Hospital, in East China Township; or Mercy Health Center, in Fort Gratiot Township. Advanced MRI services are available from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., throughout the week, including Saturdays.
For ease in scheduling an appointment at either Advanced MRI location, please call 810-985-1455.
