Event Theme Is ‘Health Care Reform: The Future of Health Care’

Pontiac, Mich.—St. Joseph Mercy Oakland (SJMO) is still taking reservations for its 55th annual Allen Silbergleit MD, Clinic Day for physicians, scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at the hospital’s Franco Communications Center, 44405 Woodward Ave., Pontiac.  The day will begin with registration and continental breakfast at 7:15 a.m.  Theme for this year’s Clinic Day is “Health Care Reform: The Future of Health Care.”

Speakers and their topics include:

  • Don Bignotti, MD, Senior Vice President-Chief Medical Officer, Trinity Health: “The Rationale for Clinical Integration.” 
  • Jean Malouin, MD, MPH, Associate Chair for Clinical Programs in Family Medicine and  Associate Medical Director for Ambulatory Care Services, University of Michigan

(U-M): “Accountable Care Organization (ACO).” 

  • Mary Beth Bolton, MD, FACP, a Medical Director at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan: “Health Care Reform and the Impact on Physicians.”
  • Thomas C. Gentile Jr., MSA, past president of the Association for Hospital Medical Education (AHME), former Vice President for Academic Affairs/Chief Academic Officer, St. John Health System and independent consultant: “Future of Medical Education Relative to Medicare Financing.” 

Clinic Day is named in honor of Allen Silbergleit, MD, PhD, FACS, SJMO’s program director emeritus, Department of Surgery, and former chair, Division of General Surgery.  He also is a member of the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer.

In 2005, SJMO renamed the annual Clinic Day program in honor of Dr. Silbergleit, long-serving chair of the Clinic Day committee and 40-year tenure director of the Surgery Residency program.  For his accomplishments in Graduate Medical Education, Dr. Silbergleit was awarded the Parker J. Palmer Courage to Teach Award of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.

SJMO nephrologist and Clinic Day Chair Usman Master, MD, FACP, will chair the gathering.  The program also includes SJMO President and CEO Jack Weiner, SJMO Chief Medical Officer and Vice President of Medical Affairs Michael Smith, DO;  SJMO Chief of Staff Ingida Asfaw, MD, FACS; and Clinic Day Honorary Chair Dr. Silbergleit.  Ann Suziedelis, SJMO Vice President of Mission and Ethics, will give the reflection.

SJMO Clinic Day committee members include Dr. Silbergleit; Dr. Master; Frank Bagnasco, MD, Chair of the Continuing Medical Education Committee; Benjamin Diaczok, MD, Program Director, Internal Medicine Residency; Stanley Dorfman, MD, Director of Medical Student Education; Nitin Doshi, MD; Chief of Staff Ingida Asfaw, MD; Wilbur Smith Jr., MD, Director of Medical Education; and Karen Parrott, Continuing Medical Education Coordinator.

The event is supported in part by The Helen Castle Booster Fund and the SJMO Medical Staff.
