“Helping Expectant Parents and Their Children with Sibling Rivalry”
Welcoming a new baby into the family can be an adjustment for “older” sisters and brothers. The Marian Women's Center at St. Mary Mercy Hospital will offer a Sibling Tour on Saturday, October 30, from 10 – 11:30 a.m. Good sibling preparation can minimize your child’s feelings of anxiety and jealousy with the coming of a new baby.
Children ages 1 through 13 are invited to attend the sibling tour and learn how much fun it can be to be a big brother or big sister. These siblings will see what the new baby will look like and learn the safe way to hold the new baby, and talk about how it feels to be a big brother or big sister. Parents are invited to come too and learn how they can help kids be the best big brother or sister they can be. Adding a new member to the family is a big adjustment for children. Help them prepare by attending the Sibling Tour at St. Mary Mercy Hospital.
This program is designed to help decrease anxiety, assist the child in recognizing and expressing feelings that help develop realistic expectations regarding the newborn. Parents will be given information in developing strategies to prepare the older child for the birth. Parents will also develop coping strategies for dealing with more than one child.
There is a $10 fee per family. Pre-registration is required, call 734.655.1162, or register online at stmarymercy.org and click on “classes and events”.
