Title
Major Construction Planned for CCH, Public Forum
Start Date

Article
It’s an exciting time in the history of Chelsea Community Hospital, as preparations for its largest construction project ever are underway.

Though the Hospital has expanded, renovated, and improved upon its facilities several times since it opened in 1970, nothing of this caliber has been undertaken – until now.

The Hospital will undergo a transformation with a large-scale, multi-phased project that will commence this spring. The first phase, a two-story addition, will include a new 54-bed addition which will make all the Hospital’s rooms private, as well as new Emergency Room, x-ray/imaging areas, outpatient rehab/therapy, front entrance, and lobby. As part of this project, much of the parking and driveways will be improved and redesigned.

The second phase involves renovation and improvement of the existing areas. After the addition and renovations are complete, a comprehensive Cancer Center will be built, which will include radiation oncology. The Hospital opened its new Infusion Center last fall, and the Cancer Center will allow CCH to expand upon those services and provide a full spectrum of cancer care, close to home.

Completion of the addition is expected in late 2012. Renovation of existing facilities will follow. The funds for the construction are a result of Chelsea’s 2009 merger with Saint Joseph Mercy Health System.

“We are so excited to begin this new chapter in the history of Chelsea Community Hospital,” said Kathleen Griffiths, President and CEO. “I think the community will be very pleased with the new facility and the comfort and convenience it will bring to our patients and visitors. It will enable us to continue our goal to provide the highest quality care to our patients.”

The Hospital’s theme for the new project is “Growing for You,” featuring a photo of the trees on its scenic wooded campus. The public may see this theme around the hospital, and in an upcoming media campaign.

“We felt the ‘Growing for You’ theme was appropriate because we are, quite simply, growing to meet the needs of our community,” Griffiths said. “The tree image was used because our beautiful campus is part of our identity, and will remain so with the new building. The growth and changes we will see will only enhance our patient care and enable us to do what we do best, in a state-of-the-art building.”

** Public Invited to Forum **

The public is invited to attend a free community forum to learn more about the upcoming construction at Chelsea Community Hospital.

The forum will take place on Thursday, January 27, from 7-8 pm in the Main Dining Room at the Hospital. Presenters are a representative from the Architectural Firm Albert Kahn, and Chelsea Community Hospital President and CEO Kathleen Griffiths. Architectural drawings and floor plans will be presented to the audience.

“This is an opportunity for our community to learn about the new facilities being planned for the Hospital campus and we look forward to sharing this information,” said Griffiths. “We want to keep the community informed as we embark upon this exciting project.”

A community question and answer session will follow the presentation. Light refreshments will be provided.
