What we do
St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea offers a continuum of behavioral health services to meet the specific needs of patients and their families. These services include inpatient, outpatient, and day treatment programs. Coordination among these services allows patients to move from one level of care to another as their needs change. Patients and families are assured of personal, thoughtful care that addresses the physical, psychological, and social aspects of well-being.

Department Services

Assessment and Triage Services
Assessment Services is designed to improve accessibility for patients by offering a centralized and rapid evaluation process. We have specially trained staff who are available to direct patients to the services that can best meet their needs. Hours are Monday,Tuesday, Thursday 8:30-6 and Wednesday, Friday 8:30-5.

Adult Inpatient Behavioral Health Services
In addition to our secured unit, we offer the only open unit in the state of Michigan that encourages self responsibility. Patients benefit from the entire range of hospital resources, including consultations with physicians and other professionals as needed. Treatment reflects a strong commitment to teamwork, a process that values and respects the contribution of each discipline. Our treatment teams comprise the disciplines of psychiatry, social work, psychology, nursing and recreational therapy. Family members are encouraged to participate. Our inpatient unit has 24 beds.

Outpatient Behavioral Health Services
We have experienced, board certified psychiatrists and masters prepared social workers who offer various treatment approaches, including individual, group, and family treatment designed to meet the patient's individual needs. We provide treatment for children, adolescents, adults and older adults. Our psychiatrists and therapists work together to provide the most advanced and effective treatments to address all aspects of our patients' well being.

Substance Abuse Programs

Adolescent Substance Abuse Services

SRSLY is a community-wide coalition dedicated to preventing destructive behavior in Chelsea youth. With support from St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea and the Coghlan Family Foundation, we are working to prevent underage drinking and drug use. Anyone can join SRSLY and play a role in prevention. Extended Substance Abuse Evaluation for Adolescents
This 3 -week, 6 session evaluation includes family and individual sessions and culminates in a recommendation that may include a referral for additional services based on the severity of the issues uncovered during the evaluation.

Adolescent Discovery Group
The group is designed to help adolescents who may be concerned about their own or someone else's use of alcohol, and/or other drugs. This group is formed on an as-needed basis.

Parent Substance Abuse Prevention Group
The group is designed to help educate parents about substance use, abuse, addiction, and/or dependence. This group is formed on an as-needed basis.

Adult Substance Abuse Services

Substance Abuse Evaluation and Treatment
We offer specially trained staff to evaluate substance abuse issues.  We provide individual treatment and appropriate referrals to community support services.

Discovery Group
The group is designed to help adults who are concerned about their own substance use.This group is formed on an as-needed basis.

Older Adult Recovery Center
At the Older Adult Recovery Center (OARC) we specialize in helping older adults who may be concerned about their use of alcohol, addictive medications or other drugs.
